President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday led the nation in paying homage to the soldiers of the 1971 war on Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s decisive victory over Pakistan. In a message on X, Murmu said the nation remains forever grateful for the ultimate sacrifice of the bravehearts, whose stories of valor inspire every Indian and serve as a source of national pride.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid tribute, describing the soldiers’ heroic acts as a lasting inspiration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured the Armed Forces, lauding their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve that safeguarded the nation and brought glory.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh saluted the courage and patriotism of the soldiers, noting their sacrifice ensured the country’s safety. “India will never forget their sacrifice and service,” Singh stated.
To mark the occasion, Defence Minister laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Senior officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Vice-Chief of Naval Staff Vice-Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, joined in paying respects to the fallen heroes.
