President-elect Donald Trump praised the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray, calling it a “great day for America.” Wray, who announced his decision to step down in an internal FBI meeting on Wednesday, will leave office before Trump’s inauguration. Trump criticized Wray’s leadership, claiming the FBI had “illegally raided” his home and played a role in his impeachment and indictment. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Trump stated, “Under the leadership of Christopher Wray, the FBI illegally raided my home, without cause, worked diligently on illegally impeaching and indicting me, and has done everything else to interfere with the success and future of America.”
Trump also nominated Kash Patel, a vocal critic of the FBI, to succeed Wray. Patel has advocated for limiting the FBI’s authority, a stance that Trump fully supports. “Kash Patel is the most qualified nominee to lead the FBI in the Agency’s history,” Trump wrote, expressing confidence that Patel will restore “Law, Order, and Justice” to the country.
Trump concluded, “We want our FBI back, and that will now happen. I look forward to Kash Patel’s confirmation, so that the process of Making the FBI Great Again can begin.”
