Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday underscored the importance of human rights in shaping a peaceful, equitable, and sustainable future, marking the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Speaking on the occasion, Dhankhar highlighted the enduring relevance of the 1948 document. “Human rights empower individuals and communities, guiding us to address global challenges. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting and promoting these rights,” he said. Dhankhar noted India’s proud legacy as an advocate of these universal ideals, rooted in civilizational values that align with the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. He emphasized the nation’s responsibility to ensure these values are safeguarded as it also celebrates the 75th anniversary of its Constitution.
“This is a moment to pledge for a world where everyone can live with dignity, free from oppression, and with equal opportunities to fulfill their potential,” Dhankhar said.
