India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Bangladesh on December 9 for a high-level diplomatic engagement. The visit gained significance following the rise to power of Bangladesh’s interim government under Muhammad Yunus in August and amid concerns over the safety of Hindus in the country after Sheikh Hasina’s government was ousted, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Misri is expected to meet his Bangladeshi counterpart and participate in multiple engagements. The MEA Official Spokesperson described the visit as part of “Foreign Office Consultations,” a structured mechanism to strengthen bilateral ties. “We look forward to this meeting,” the spokesperson said. Addressing concerns about the treatment of individuals in Bangladesh, he reiterated India’s stance: “We hope their legal rights will be respected and that they receive a fair and transparent trial.”
