Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to push for the speedy completion of ongoing work at Halwara Airport, operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF). Arora said that the Defence Minister assured immediate action and directed concerned officials to accelerate progress.
Highlighting the project’s significance, Arora said the relaying of the airstrip is vital for enhancing the airport’s operational capacity and enabling civil aviation activities. He has been closely monitoring the project, conducting site visits and meetings with key stakeholders, including Ludhiana’s Deputy Commissioner, the Airport Director, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and PWD officials.
Arora noted that while work on the civil side of the airport is complete, delays persist due to pending approvals and formalities on the IAF’s side. He requested the Defence Minister’s intervention to expedite these approvals, which would pave the way for the airport’s full operationalization, boosting connectivity and economic growth in the region.
In August, Arora met with a Tata Sons delegation to explore the possibility of launching flights from Halwara Airport after its completion. The airport, with the capacity to accommodate 300 passengers and park two wide-bodied aircraft, also has provisions for future expansion.
Calling the project a “dream initiative” of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Arora reiterated the state government’s commitment to completing the project and enhancing regional infrastructure.
