In a coordinated operation between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies, approximately 500 kg of crystal meth was seized in the Arabian Sea. The operation was triggered by intelligence from the Sri Lankan Navy, which flagged suspected narcotics smuggling by Sri Lankan fishing vessels. Acting on the information, the Indian Navy launched a swift response, deploying long-range maritime patrol aircraft and remotely piloted drones for extensive surveillance. Indian Naval ships also augmented efforts in the search, the Indian Navy’s official statement said.
On November 24 and 25, two boats were intercepted and boarded, leading to the seizure of the drugs. The operation, which involved close collaboration between both navies, highlights their strong partnership in tackling maritime security challenges. The seized narcotics and the boats, along with the crew, have been handed over to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal proceedings.
