Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the BJP over the law and order situation and financial condition of Punjab ahead of the party’s ‘Insaaf Rally’ in Sangrur, which is expected to be attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the rally, Singh said Kharge and Gandhi were expected to reach the venue between 12 pm and 12.15 pm to address the gathering.
Targeting the AAP government over the law and order situation, Singh alleged that Punjab was witnessing a breakdown of law and order, with traders and common people living under fear due to threats and extortion demands.
He alleged that the government was making tall claims through advertisements and hoardings, while the ground situation remained different. Singh described the situation in the state as similar to ‘jungle raj’.
Raising concerns over Punjab’s financial position, the Congress leader claimed that the state’s debt had reached nearly Rs 4.75 lakh crore and continued to rise.
He also alleged an understanding between the AAP and BJP, claiming that the ruling party in Punjab was functioning as the BJP’s B-team.
Singh asserted that the Congress was united and would continue its struggle to protect Punjab’s rights and identity.
