A carpenter from Kartarpur in Jalandhar has accused a group of local youths of robbery, attacking his house with bricks and swords, and later abducting and assaulting his uncle, leaving him with a fractured arm and serious eye injuries. The family has alleged police inaction despite repeated complaints and sought intervention from senior police officials.
The complainant, identified as Parveen, said the first incident took place on October 16 around 3.30 pm when he was going with his uncle to purchase plywood. When they reached Kartarpur bus stand, four local youths identified as Akhil, Harpal, Rajesh and their associates allegedly surrounded them and demanded money.
When Parveen refused, the accused allegedly assaulted him and snatched Rs 15,000 and a gold chain from him.
Parveen said he approached the police station with his family to lodge a complaint, but the police only took a written application and allegedly failed to initiate immediate action.
He further alleged that after learning about the complaint, a person identified as Gola mobilised around 40 to 50 youths, who attacked his house within half an hour. The assailants allegedly pelted the house with bricks and attacked with swords.
During the assault, a brick reportedly hit Parveen’s wife when she and his uncle tried to shut the door. The family claimed the stone pelting was so severe that part of the house’s roof collapsed. The incident was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras installed outside the house, and the footage was handed over to the police.
The family further alleged that although the police apprehended one accused at the spot, he was subsequently released without action. They claimed repeated visits to the police failed to yield any concrete response.
The complainant alleged that the group attacked again on October 29 and forcibly took his uncle, Jaswinder, from near DAV School on an Activa scooter to the Mandi area, where he was brutally assaulted.
Jaswinder suffered a fractured arm and a serious injury to one eye, reportedly affecting his vision. The family alleged that despite his critical condition, he was initially kept at Kartarpur hospital before being referred to a hospital in Jalandhar.
The family maintained that there was no previous enmity with the accused and alleged that the attacks were carried out because Parveen refused to give money for drugs and approached the police.
Seeking intervention from the Jalandhar SSP and senior police officials, the family has demanded the registration of an FIR, immediate arrest of the accused and strict action against those involved.
