The Kangra District Congress Committee has set a target of sending 5,000 people in more than 100 vehicles to Delhi for the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ mega rally being organised under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
District Congress media coordinator and general secretary Pankaj Kumar Panku announced the preparations during a press conference in Dharamshala, claiming that Himachal Pradesh would have a significant presence at the rally.
He said preparations were being coordinated under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP and Congress president Anurag Sharma, with more than 100 small and large vehicles expected to leave Kangra district for Delhi.
Panku claimed that more than 10 lakh people would gather in Delhi for the rally, which is part of the Congress’s nationwide campaign against the policies of the Central Government.
Accusing the BJP-led government of electoral irregularities, he said issues such as alleged vote theft, paper leaks, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and unemployment had generated public resentment.
He also alleged that attempts were being made to stop vehicles travelling to Delhi and suppress the voices of ordinary people.
Panku said the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, was raising these issues at the national level. He also credited the state government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu with laying the foundation for development while safeguarding Himachal Pradesh’s interests.
Commenting on the BJP’s recent march in Dharamshala, Panku termed it unsuccessful.
