Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Friday paid tribute to the martyrs of the Saka Panja Sahib, marking 100 years of their supreme sacrifice for the Sikh community.
Remembering the martyrs on behalf of the Khalsa Panth, Dhami said their sacrifices had created a golden chapter in Sikh history that would never be forgotten.
He said the path of martyrdom was not meant for everyone but was attained through the blessings of the Guru, dedicated service, devotion and good deeds. He added that the teachings of the Sikh Gurus had instilled such courage among Sikhs that they overcame the fear of death and remained committed to the Guru’s word.
Quoting the Gurbani verse, “Soora So Pehchaniye Jo Larai Deen Ke Het, Purja Purja Kat Marey Kabhoo Na Chhadey Khet”, Dhami said the martyrs had laid down their lives to uphold the honour and dignity of the community without fearing death.
He prayed for the continued blessings of the Guru and wished peace, prosperity and well-being for all, invoking the Sikh prayer, “Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhala”.
