A special prayer was held at the premises of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to seek an end to drug abuse in Punjab, justice for the family of Parvinder Singh Jhota, who lost his life while opposing drugs, and peace and prosperity in the state.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Harmandir Sahib management, the Dharam Parchar Committee, and other Sikh representatives organized the prayer. The gathering prayed for Punjab’s youth to be protected from drug abuse and for peace, harmony and prosperity to return to the state.

During the event, speakers and organisers expressed concern over the spread of drugs in Punjab and criticised what they described as inadequate concrete action by the government and administration to tackle the problem.

They also raised concerns about people who oppose drug-related activities being targeted. The speakers stressed that those who stand against drugs and work for social welfare should receive protection and that their families should not be left without justice.

Prayer for justice for Parvinder Singh’s family

The special prayer specifically remembered Parvinder Singh. Speakers said he had opposed drugs and lost his life in the process. They called for justice for his family and urged the authorities to address the concerns of families who have suffered losses while opposing drug abuse.

The speakers also expressed concern that families of others who had sacrificed their lives while working against drugs and for social welfare were not receiving adequate attention.

Appeal to protect Punjab’s youth

The Sri Harmandir Sahib manager, secretary of the Dharam Parchar Committee and gurdwara staff joined in the prayer before Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The congregation sought Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj’s blessings for the Sikh community and Punjab.

The prayer called for Punjab to be freed from drug abuse and for an atmosphere of peace, brotherhood and well-being to prevail across the state.

At the conclusion, members of the Sikh congregation and organizers pledged to encourage wider social participation in efforts to protect young people and oppose drug abuse. The gathering ended with the Sikh religious proclamation, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
