Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of allowing the drug trade to grow in Punjab, hinting at a possible alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ahead of the next elections.
Shah said people had decided to bring an NDA government to power in Punjab and predicted that the AAP would be wiped out in the next elections.“Kejriwal ji, excuses will not work, results are needed. After losing Delhi, you have shifted your focus to Punjab, disrupting the Chief Minister’s work there,” Shah said on Thursday. He also pledged to eliminate the drug trade in Punjab by 2029.
Shah was speaking while launching projects worth ₹8,941 crore for cleaning the Yamuna river. He said the government was committed to restoring the river’s cleanliness before May 2029.He accused political parties, including the AAP and Congress, of making excuses when in power instead of addressing public concerns.
“Previously, when the AAP government or the Congress government was in power, they would constantly make excuses, claiming they didn’t receive this support or that assistance,” he said.
Shah also criticised the AAP over corruption and waste management, accusing the party of using the issue of garbage dumps for political gain.He said the BJP had taken steps to clear the accumulated waste and promised that gardens would replace the dumps within two years.
“I assure you today that in two years’ time, you will see a garden in their place. This is the pledge of the Bharatiya Janata Party,” he said.
