Investigators trace alleged arms transfer route from Punjab to Mumbai

Chandigarh: The Mumbai Crime Branch investigation into the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff’s car has revealed an alleged weapons supply chain linked to Amritsar, where two accused reportedly collected firearms before their planned transportation to Mumbai.

According to sources, the accused, identified as Kunal and Sumit, travelled to Amritsar around a fortnight ago to retrieve the weapons. Anil Pandit allegedly shared the pickup location in advance and communicated with Kunal through an encrypted messaging application.

Investigators suspect the firearms were placed at a designated spot using a method known as a “dead letter box”, which allows an item to be collected without the people involved meeting in person. The two accused reportedly did not know who had left the weapons at the location.

Media reports said Pandit allegedly paid between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000 for the task. Of this, around Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 was reportedly given to Babita and Radha, who were allegedly tasked with transporting the firearms to Mumbai.

Sources said Kunal had met Radha about two months ago and later asked her to travel to Mumbai with Babita. Both women reportedly worked at a factory in Sonipat. Investigators suspect Radha was recruited to help transport the weapons.

The developments came amid the probe into the firing incident involving Shroff’s car in Juhu on Sunday evening. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver sustained injuries.

On Wednesday, three key accused arrested in the case were brought to Mumbai from Kota in Rajasthan. After undergoing medical examinations, they were taken to the Anti-Extortion Cell office for questioning.

Their lawyer, Ajinkya Mirgal Madhukar, said the accused had undergone medical examinations before being taken to the Anti-Extortion Cell. He added that the inquiry was underway and they were expected to be produced before a court the following morning.

The Crime Branch has also said the shooters initially planned to target another prominent Bollywood celebrity but changed their plan after failing to reach the individual because of tight security. The police have not revealed the celebrity’s identity. Investigators alleged that the accused then selected Shroff, believing he would be an easier target.

Meanwhile, Shroff’s management team cautioned against the circulation of fabricated statements, AI-generated videos and other unauthorised content falsely attributed to the actor. It said he had not issued any statement or video regarding the incident and urged media organisations and social media users to rely on verified information.

The investigation into the firing incident and the alleged weapons supply network remained underway.
