Mika Singh, Anupam Kher, Badshah and Kapil Sharma rally behind Daler Mehndi following the Uttarakhand stage controversy
Chandigarh: The music was playing, but the spotlight soon shifted from the stage to controversy. Veteran Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi found himself at the centre of a heated debate following a public confrontation during his performance in Uttarakhand, amid allegations surrounding alcohol consumption. The incident sparked widespread discussion, prompting several Bollywood celebrities to come forward in support of the singer and defend his legacy.
Leading the charge was his brother, Mika Singh, who strongly defended Daler Mehndi amid the allegations. Mika also highlighted that his brother had recently undergone major surgery and was still struggling with his health, urging people to consider his medical condition amid the controversy.
Actor Anupam Kher, who has shared a friendship with Daler Mehndi for nearly three decades, also extended his support through a video message recorded from abroad. Standing by the singer, Kher questioned the manner in which the veteran performer was reprimanded publicly. For Kher, the issue went beyond the performance itself; it was also about the dignity and respect an experienced artist deserves.
Rapper Badshah expressed disappointment over the public humiliation of the legendary singer, emphasising that an artist who has helped shape the music industry should be treated with respect.
Comedian Kapil Sharma urged people not to judge the singer hastily, drawing attention to his recent health challenges and surgeries.
Singer Alisha Chinai also emerged as a vocal supporter. Commenting on Mika Singh’s Instagram post, she defended Daler Mehndi’s musical legacy and questioned the public confrontation. She pointed out that backing tracks and minus-one tracks were commonly used during live performances, describing the alleged treatment of the singer as “tasteless behaviour”.
Actors Suniel Shetty, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Rahul Dev also expressed solidarity through supportive reactions and comments on Mika Singh’s post.
The controversy has sparked a wider debate about respect and dignity within the entertainment industry. As several celebrities rallied behind Daler Mehndi, their messages highlighted a common sentiment: a veteran artist’s contribution to the industry and personal dignity deserve consideration, even amid public controversy.
