Contestants perform 1990s hits as singer recalls musical association with Alka Yagnik
Chandigarh: The upcoming episode of “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2026” will celebrate singer Kumar Sanu’s 69th birthday, which falls on October 20, i.e. Tuesday, with performances of his popular songs from the 1990s, revisiting an era that shaped Hindi film music.
The episode opens with “Ae Kaash Ke Hum”, followed by contestant Durgesh Yadav’s rendition of “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai”. Kumar Sanu joins him on stage, adding to the celebrations. Mir Zulfikar performs “Der Na Ho Jaaye”, while Kadamb Chauhan’s rendition of “Tu Mile Dil Khile” earns appreciation from the singer.
Contestant Gitashree Chowdhury performs “Gawah Hai Chand Taare”, originally sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. The performance prompts Sanu to recall his musical association with Yagnik, with whom he recorded more than 500 duets.
Reflecting on their collaboration, Sanu sings a few lines in tribute to his longtime musical partner and expresses hope for her speedy recovery.
“Some of the most romantic songs of my career have been with Alka ji, and her brilliance as a singer needs no introduction,” he says.
The latest season of the music reality show features a 360-degree stage, more than 100 musicians and a large chorus ensemble. Actor Shreyas Talpade hosts the show.
The show airs on Zee TV every Saturday and Sunday at 9.30 pm and streams on ZEE5.
