Sunil Barsen questions revised timetable, seeks improved rail services for local residents
Kangra : Congress spokesperson Sunil Barsen on Monday raised concerns about limited train services on the Kangra-Jogindernagar railway line, which resumed operations on October 11 after remaining closed for four years following a bridge collapse. He urged the Kangra MP to address the concerns of residents affected by the revised timetable.
At a press conference, Barsen said the British built the 164-km railway line in three years nearly a century ago. He questioned why the route had remained closed for four years after a single bridge collapsed, despite advances in technology.
He said local residents and the Railway Sangharsh Samiti reopened the railway line. However, he alleged that the revised schedule failed to meet the needs of people living along the route adequately.
According to Barsen, the first train departed from Pathankot for Baijnath at 5 am, followed by another at 7 am. He said no trains operated on the route during the rest of the day, while the return services reached Pathankot at 9.50 pm and 10.50 pm.
He said the long gap between services limited the railway line’s usefulness for residents.
Barsen appealed to the Kangra MP to intervene and ensure better rail connectivity, stating that residents needed accessible transport to support their daily activities and livelihoods.
