Chandigarh: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has returned to Delhi Capitals as the franchise’s head coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL), the franchise announced on its official social media handles on Tuesday.

Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019, when he joined as an adviser. He later served as Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams before taking charge as head coach.

Delhi Capitals Chairman and Co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment, describing Ganguly as an integral part of the franchise. Jindal said his leadership and experience would give the players and support staff an opportunity to learn from him and help the team prepare for the new season.

Delhi Capitals Co-owner and GMR Sports founder Kiran Kumar Grandhi said Ganguly had played an important role in strengthening the franchise’s cricketing structure. He said his understanding of the team, experience and leadership would be valuable as the franchise moved forward.

Ganguly said he was looking forward to taking on the new responsibility and described Delhi Capitals as a franchise close to his heart.

“I have worked closely with the owners, management, support staff and players, which makes this an exciting responsibility for me,” Ganguly added.

He further said the squad had talent and had played good cricket in recent seasons. He said he looked forward to working with the players ahead of the new season and building “a strong and fearless team”.
