Punjab Cabinet has approved a bill to set up the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) for the planned and sustainable development of areas around the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam.The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday. The proposed RDA will focus on eco-tourism, land management, infrastructure development and destination planning in the region. It will function as a statutory body under the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department. The authority will have administrative, financial and regulatory powers to oversee integrated development and project implementation.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will head the authority, while the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister will be its vice-chairman. An executive committee headed by the chief secretary will oversee its day-to-day functioning and coordination between departments.
The Cabinet also approved the creation of new driver posts in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
The posts will be created by surrendering existing peon posts and one post of moharrir. The government said the move was aimed at improving the functioning of the election office.The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules, 2016, allowing tutor posts at Government Colleges of Nursing in Patiala and Amritsar to be filled through promotion.
The posts will be filled from among regular staff nurses and nursing sisters with an M.Sc. in Nursing in the relevant speciality. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of teaching experience in nursing education.The Cabinet also approved the regularisation of contractual non-teaching staff working under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES).
Those eligible for regularisation will receive the benefits applicable under PICTES, including prescribed regular pay scales.
