Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday that differences between India and China should not become disputes, during talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The two leaders agreed that mutual respect, sensitivity and interest should guide their bilateral relations.
They welcomed what they described as steady progress in ties since their previous meeting in Tianjin in August 2025. Both leaders said the relationship should be viewed from a strategic and long-term perspective.
The leaders also expressed a commitment to finding a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question, taking into account the wider relationship and the long-term interests of the two countries.
They discussed progress in people-to-people ties and the need to promote cultural exchanges, business links and greater mobility between India and China.
On trade and economic relations, the two sides highlighted the need to address concerns including structural trade imbalances and supply chain issues. They also stressed the importance of meaningful and predictable market access.
Modi and Xi agreed to continue expanding common ground on regional and global issues and to work together on shared challenges.
