Former TTD Chairman Seeks Supreme Court Probe into Animal Fat Allegations in Laddu Prasadam

Former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) chairman YV Subba Reddy has approached the Supreme Court, requesting the formation of an independent committee, led by a retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate allegations regarding the use of animal fat in the laddu prasadam served at the Tirumala Temple during the YSRCP government’s tenure under Jagan Mohan Reddy, the news outlet The Times of India reported.

This development follows a four-hour sanitation ritual, Shanti Homam Panchagavya Prokshana, held at the temple to counter any desecration caused by the alleged use of animal fat in the prasadam. J Shyamala Rao, the executive officer of TTD, stated that the rituals aim to restore the sanctity of the laddu prasadam and ensure the well-being of devotees, according to The Hindustan Times.

On Sunday, another former TTD trust board chairman, Bhumana Karunakar, dismissed the allegations as baseless and called for a CBI investigation. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had previously alleged that the YSRCP government used animal fat in the preparation of the temple’s laddu.

According to a report from a Gujarat-based lab, samples of ghee sent by TTD contained traces of “beef tallow,” lard, and fish oil. In response, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
