Rana says her captaincy is both a proud moment and a major responsibility as the team targets a gold medal at the Asian Games.

Himachal Pradesh’s Pushpa Rana has been appointed captain of the Indian women’s kabaddi team, with the player setting her sights on winning a gold medal for India at the Asian Games.

Rana thanked all office-bearers and members of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) for entrusting her with the responsibility. She said the captaincy was a matter of pride as well as a major responsibility, with the country’s expectations riding on the team’s performance.

Speaking after arriving at Kangra Airport, Rana said her appointment had brought happiness to her family and people in her hometown. She said her parents had always dreamed of seeing her lead the Indian team and were delighted that their dream had come true.

Rana has previously represented India at the South Asian Games, Asian Championship, Asian Games and World Cup. She said the team had been training at a camp for nearly five to six months, with fitness sessions in the morning and training focused on skills, techniques and handling match pressure in the evening.

Rana said Iran and Chinese Taipei were among the strong teams at the international level and no opponent could be taken lightly. She said the coaching staff had worked hard with every player and the team was focused on putting up a strong performance and winning a medal for India at the Asian Games.
