‘Sundays on cycle’ held in Dharamshala to promote fitness, drug-free youth

The event encouraged youngsters to embrace sports and fitness while spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Over 50 youngsters, NCC cadets and police personnel participated in the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event in Dharamshala on Sunday to promote fitness, sports and a drug-free lifestyle on the occasion of National Sports Day.

The three-day sports program was organized jointly by My Bharat Kangra, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the SAI Sports Hostel, Dharamshala. Kangra SP Kulbhushan Verma flagged off the cycling event, during which participants spread the message of fitness and staying away from drugs.

My Bharat Kangra Deputy Director Dhruv Dogra said activities including yoga and rope skipping were also organized to encourage youngsters to adopt a healthy lifestyle. He said the initiative encourages youth to cycle for at least 30 minutes every Sunday.

Verma said the program aimed to connect youngsters with sports and promote a healthy society. He said increasing attraction towards mobile phones and drugs among youth was a concern, and sports could provide them with a positive direction.

He urged youngsters to make use of the SAI ground and other sports facilities available in Dharamshala and make sports and fitness part of their daily lives.
