Zirakpur markets see subdued activity as several shops remain shut; traffic movement remains low amid Punjab-wide bandh call over release of Sikh prisoners

Zirakpur, August 21

The Punjab bandh had a visible impact in Zirakpur, with several markets witnessing reduced activity and most shops remaining closed in many areas. Compared with normal days, fewer people were seen in the markets, while traffic movement on the roads was also lower.

The bandh has been called over demands including the release of Sikh prisoners. During the shutdown, demonstrations were also reported at different locations, with various organisations and supporters extending their participation.

The impact of the bandh was particularly noticeable in Zirakpur’s markets, where commercial activity remained subdued. However, the situation was not uniform across the city. While a large number of shops remained closed, some establishments were also seen open in certain areas.

The movement of people and the functioning of essential services also varied across different parts of Zirakpur. The overall situation remained mixed, with the extent of the shutdown differing from one locality to another.

In view of the bandh, the police administration remained on alert. Security arrangements were being monitored at sensitive locations to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.

At present, Zirakpur is witnessing a mixed response to the Punjab bandh. Several shops continue to remain closed, particularly in market areas, while normal activity is visible at some locations.
