Patiala, August 17

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab media adviser Baltej Pannu welcomed the torch of the ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ sports event at Rink Hall in Leela Bhawan, Patiala, and flagged it off for Fatehgarh Sahib today.

Pannu said the sporting event provides a major platform for children from villages across Punjab to showcase their talent and progress to higher-level competitions. He also honoured promising players during the event.

“‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ is a major platform provided by the Punjab government for children from villages, where they can showcase their game and move ahead to bigger competitions,” Pannu said.

He said the Punjab government was organising competitions on a large scale to encourage children and youngsters to stay away from drugs and become involved in sports.

Pannu said the sporting activities would gain momentum in the state, with games set to be held in Bathinda on September 5. He also appealed to young people to associate themselves with sports to help realise the dream of a ‘Rangla Punjab’.

On the farmers’ issue, Pannu said farmers should be allowed to proceed towards Delhi, alleging that the Haryana government had stopped them at the Khanauri border.

He said farmers wanted to travel to Delhi to raise their demands but had once again been stopped at the border by the BJP government. Pannu also criticised Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, alleging that while he showed sympathy towards Punjab, barricades were being placed on roads to prevent farmers from travelling to Delhi.

“The farmers’ issue is not with Haryana but with Delhi, and the BJP should hold talks with the farmers,” Pannu said.

He further criticised the proposed India-US trade deal, saying the government should assess its potential impact on farmers before proceeding with the agreement.

Pannu said the government should listen to the farmers’ concerns and cancel the proposed trade deal.
