Wayanad, July 11
Search operations continued for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday to locate Vikram Rana, a construction manager from Himachal Pradesh who remains missing after a landslide at the Anakkompoyil Meppadi tunnel project site in Kerala’s Wayanad district.
The landslide struck the tunnel project on July 7, claiming seven lives. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to trace Rana, who is yet to be found.
The search operation is being carried out by personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, police special operations teams, the Fire Department and volunteer organisations.
In view of the ongoing rescue work, authorities have imposed traffic restrictions on the Chooralmala Meppadi route via Meenakshi Bridge. Except for essential services, vehicles are permitted to travel along the route only at two-hour intervals to facilitate uninterrupted search operations.
The Anakkompoyil Meppadi tunnel project is intended to improve connectivity between Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.
