Shimla, July 10
More than 50 Bharatiya Janata Party workers, along with several other people from the Shimla Rural, Kusumpti and Rohru Assembly constituencies, joined the Congress on Friday as part of the party’s organizational expansion campaign. The induction took place at Rajiv Bhawan in the presence of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Principal Media Adviser Naresh Chauhan and Shimla Rural District Congress Committee President Hari Krishan Himral.
Addressing the gathering, Naresh Chauhan said the new inductions would strengthen the Congress ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. He accused the BJP of being divided internally and alleged that the party had failed to effectively raise issues concerning Himachal Pradesh before the Center, including the restoration of the Revenue Deficit Grant and disaster relief assistance. Chauhan said the role of the Opposition should extend beyond criticism and include cooperation in the state’s development. He claimed that the Congress government has introduced significant reforms in the health and education sectors and expressed confidence that the people of Himachal Pradesh would continue to support the party.
Responding to the BJP’s proposed chargesheet against the state government, Chauhan described it as a mere formality. He alleged that the BJP has no substantive issues against the Congress government and said previous chargesheets had also failed to establish any credible allegations. He added that being in the Opposition does not absolve the BJP of its responsibility towards the state’s development.
