Kullu, July 9
BJP Mandi MP, Kangana Ranaut, on Thursday accused the Himachal Pradesh government of deliberately holding up crores of rupees allocated under her MP fund for development projects, alleging that public welfare works were being obstructed for political reasons.
Speaking at the launch of a mobile medical van service in Chansari village of Kullu district, Ranaut claimed that funds earmarked for development across her parliamentary constituency had failed to move beyond the Deputy Commissioner’s office despite being sanctioned. “Crores of rupees have been allocated for development works, but the money is not reaching the ground. It is being deliberately stopped,” she alleged while addressing local residents.
The Himachal Pradesh government has not publicly responded to the allegations. Ranaut’s remarks came during the inauguration of a mobile healthcare initiative supported by NHPC Limited and operated by Matrix Society for Social Services. The service aims to provide free primary and preventive healthcare facilities to people living in remote and difficult-to-access villages.
Addressing concerns over healthcare access in the hill state, the MP said residents in far-flung areas often struggle to receive timely medical attention. The mobile medical van, she said, would offer free health check-ups, blood tests, medicines and primary treatment at people’s doorsteps. With the monsoon season underway, Ranaut also expressed concern about the risk of natural disasters and prayed for the safety of residents. She then broadened her criticism of the state government, accusing the Congress administration of failing to support development initiatives despite financial assistance from the Centre.
The BJP MP said the Narendra Modi-led government had prioritised healthcare and welfare programmes through schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, the expansion of AIIMS and medical colleges, Health and Wellness Centres and the Digital Health Mission. She described the mobile healthcare project as part of a wider effort to ensure that essential services reach the most vulnerable sections of society, including elderly people, women and low-income families in rural areas.
Ranaut also praised NHPC Limited and Matrix Society for Social Services for supporting the initiative and said that collaboration between public institutions and social organisations could help bridge healthcare gaps in underserved regions. The mobile medical van is expected to serve thousands of residents across villages in the Mandi parliamentary constituency by bringing basic healthcare services closer to their homes.
