Auto driver arrested after dragging traffic SHO during checking in Panchkula

A traffic police officer was dragged for nearly 100 to 200 meters after an auto rickshaw driver allegedly tried to flee to avoid a traffic challan during a vehicle checking drive near Ravidas Chowk on the dividing road between Sectors 9 and 10 in Panchkula. The accused has been arrested, and the auto rickshaw has been impounded after a challan of Rs 32,000 was issued.
According to officials, the incident occurred while a traffic police team was checking vehicle documents and verifying roadside vendors in the area. An auto rickshaw driver was signaled to stop for inspection but allegedly accelerated instead of complying with the police’s directions.
During the attempt to escape, Traffic SHO Varinder Singh’s hand reportedly got trapped in the auto rickshaw. Despite this, the driver allegedly continued to speed away, dragging the officer for nearly 100 to 200 meters and putting his life at serious risk.
Police later apprehended the accused driver. Authorities also impounded the auto rickshaw after issuing a traffic challan of Rs 32,000. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
