Panchkula, July 9
Continuous rainfall has raised the river level near Gumthala village in Panchkula, leaving schoolchildren and residents stranded after the route was inundated.
A video from the spot showed children and villagers unable to cross the flooded stretch as the swollen river blocked access. According to residents, the schoolchildren remained stranded on the route for nearly five hours, waiting for the water level to recede.
Residents said the children had been waiting for several hours without food or drinking water while hoping for safe passage.
Villagers alleged that the incident reflected administrative neglect. They said they had submitted an application last year requesting the construction of a bridge at the site to ensure safe movement during the rainy season, but no action had been taken.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the lack of essential infrastructure in the area, with nearby residents claiming they continue to suffer due to official inaction.
