Chandigarh, July 9
The Punjab Government has completed the construction of 892 modern Anganwadi Centres across the state as part of its drive to strengthen early childhood care and education, Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said. The remaining 132 centres are in the final stage of construction and will soon be dedicated to children.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the state had set a target of constructing 1,024 new Anganwadi Centres. Of these, 892 have been completed, while work on the remaining centres is nearing completion.
She said the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of economic background, receives the same quality of early learning environment and play-based education available in leading private schools.
“No shortage of funds will be allowed to hamper initiatives aimed at securing a brighter future for Punjab’s children,” the Minister said.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said children are the nation’s greatest asset and deserve a safe, joyful and stimulating environment where they can learn, play and realise their full potential. She added that the government is committed to creating equal opportunities for every child, irrespective of socio-economic background.
She described the new Anganwadi Centres as more than just buildings, saying they would provide nurturing spaces where children from rural and underprivileged families could learn and grow. She added that the centres would also play an important role in tackling malnutrition, improving children’s health and supporting their physical and cognitive development.
The Minister said all the new centres are being developed according to prescribed quality standards, with emphasis on safe, child-friendly and inclusive infrastructure. Under Mission Saksham, Rs 10 lakh has been released for each Anganwadi Centre to provide essential facilities, including adequate seating, safe drinking water, modern sanitation and learning spaces designed to support children’s holistic development.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to investing in quality early childhood care and education, Dr. Baljit Kaur said the modern Anganwadi Centres would provide every child with a nurturing environment and equal opportunities to grow into healthy, confident and capable citizens.
