Flash floods damage bridge, disrupt road connectivity in Himachal’s Rampur

Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have disrupted road connectivity in parts of Himachal Pradesh’s Rampur subdivision after a temporary bridge over the Ganvi khad stream was damaged, affecting access to the twin panchayats of Kyao and Kut.

The damaged bridge has cut off a key road link for residents. At the same time, rising water levels and strong currents submerged roads at several locations, causing significant disruption to traffic and daily movement.

Videos circulating on social media showed stranded commuters waiting on both sides of the stream as residents worked to clear stones to restore the route.

According to officials, the flash floods were triggered by heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the Samej khad stream on Tuesday evening. The surge in water levels damaged the temporary bridge and disrupted connectivity across multiple locations in the subdivision.

The India Meteorological Department reported moderate rainfall across several parts of Himachal Pradesh since Tuesday evening. Jatton Barrage in Sirmaur district recorded 70.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Murari Devi with 50 mm. Dharamshala received 46.3 mm, Neri 38.5 mm, Palampur 32.8 mm, Sundernagar 27.2 mm and Bilaspur 20 mm.

Authorities are monitoring the situation as rainfall continues across the state. Restoration of the damaged road link is expected to ease difficulties faced by residents and commuters in the affected areas.
