The Punjab Government has launched a statewide outreach program to commemorate the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji, with mobile LED vans carrying a documentary on his life and teachings to villages across the state. The initiative forms part of the year-long celebrations announced by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Punjab Tourism and Culture Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said a 30-minute documentary highlighting the life, philosophy and teachings of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji is being screened in more than 13,000 villages. He said the campaign aims to spread Guru Ji’s message of equality, devotion and social harmony to every corner of Punjab. Sharing details of the celebrations, Sond said the government has planned a series of religious, educational and social initiatives to mark the historic occasion. He said the objective is to celebrate the 650th Prakash Purab in a manner that reflects Sri Guru Ravidass Ji’s lasting contribution to society.
The minister said that four Shobha Yatras, beginning in Varanasi, Faridkot, Jammu, and Bathinda, will converge at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib. Tirath Yatras will also be organized to enable devotees from different parts of Punjab to pay obeisance at Guru Ji’s Janam Asthan in Varanasi.
As part of efforts to engage the younger generation, seminars on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji will be organized in schools, colleges and universities across Punjab.
Sond also announced that 6.5 lakh saplings will be planted in each district of the state to mark the 650th Prakash Purab. He said the plantation drive reflects Guru Ji’s message of environmental consciousness. The year-long program will also include blood donation camps, marathons, cycle rallies and Kirtan Samagams across Punjab as part of the commemorative events.
