Jammu, July 7
BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday cut short his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, cancelling his scheduled pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and returning to New Delhi because of official commitments. The visit, his first to the Union Territory after taking charge as BJP president, remained focused on organisational affairs.
Nabin arrived in Jammu on Monday and participated in a series of meetings during his visit. He visited the RSS headquarters and chaired a joint meeting of the BJP’s sitting and former legislators at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar. His proposed visit to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district was cancelled after a change in schedule. While the BJP did not officially explain the reason, party leaders said urgent organisational responsibilities required his return to Delhi for an important meeting.
Jammu and Kashmir BJP MLA and party spokesperson R S Pathania said the BJP president reviewed organisational matters with elected representatives and former legislators. He said the discussions centred on strengthening the party’s presence in Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing nationalist ideology, increasing public confidence and reviewing issues related to security and other current matters.
Pathania said separate meetings had originally been planned with district leaders, city office bearers, elected representatives and former legislators. However, under the revised schedule, all interactions were combined into a single joint meeting, which he described as positive and meaningful.
According to party leaders, Nabin’s visit remained dedicated to organisational activities and interactions with party functionaries, elected representatives and the public through various programmes. The visit also coincided with the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Before concluding his visit, Nabin met senior RSS functionaries at Keshav Bhawan in Amphalla and later paid tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Prem Nath Dogra at Dogra Chowk. His scheduled address at a youth convention was also cancelled because of time constraints.
