Modi receives ceremonial welcome in Indonesia, holds talks with president Subianto

Jakarta, July 7
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at Jakarta’s Istana Merdeka on Tuesday as he began high-level talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during the first stop of his three-nation tour.The visit is aimed at deepening the India–Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership while reinforcing New Delhi’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and its commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
Modi was welcomed with full state honours at the presidential palace before meeting President Subianto. The Prime Minister also signed the official guest book at the Istana Merdeka, marking his first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“Thank you for the warm welcome at the Istana Merdeka!” Modi wrote on social media after the ceremony.
The visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation across several priority sectors while building on the deep trust and long-standing friendship between India and Indonesia.External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit represents an important step in expanding bilateral ties and reflects the shared values and strategic partnership between the two nations.
Before leaving New Delhi, Modi said his visits to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand were designed to further strengthen India’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific region through the Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR Vision.
