Punjab Police bust two drug networks, seize 13 Kg heroin: DGP Gaurav Yadav

Chandigarh, July 6

The Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has dismantled two alleged narcotics smuggling networks, arresting three people and recovering 13 kg of heroin, officials said on Monday.Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the operation was part of the state government’s ongoing drive to make Punjab a “safe and secure state”.Those arrested have been identified as Akashdeep Singh from Tarn Taran, and Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh from Moga district. Police also seized a Hyundai Verna car allegedly used in the smuggling operation.

According to police, Akashdeep Singh was arrested after a raid at his residence in Amritsar’s Kherabad area, where 8 kg of heroin was recovered. In a separate operation, Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh were intercepted on the Amritsar–Chabal road, with 5 kg of heroin allegedly found in their vehicle.Officials said preliminary investigations suggest the accused were involved in collecting drug consignments from different locations and distributing them across Punjab.

Police said further investigations are underway to trace the wider supply chain and identify other members linked to the networks.

Two separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.
