Punjab: Woman kills her 3 children, commits suicide

A 36-year-old woman and her three children were found dead at their rented residence in Punjab’s Mansa district, with police suspecting a case of murder followed by suicide. The incident came to light on Thursday evening, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sandeep Kaur. Police said she was found hanging inside the house, while the bodies of her three children, 12-year-old Khushpreet Kaur, seven-year-old Samandeep Kaur and her two-year-old son, were recovered from the residence.

Station House Officer Kulwant Singh of City Police Station II said preliminary investigation indicates that the eldest daughter may have been administered a poisonous substance, while the two younger children are suspected to have died due to strangulation. He said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem examination.

Police said Sandeep Kaur’s husband had died a few months ago and that her mother works as a labourer. Investigators are examining the circumstances that may have led to the woman allegedly killing her children before taking her own life.

Police said further investigation is underway and action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
