Patiala, July 2

Patiala Police injured one suspected shooter in an encounter and arrested another near the bypass on Dakala Road after the duo allegedly opened fire on a police team attempting to stop them, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma said.

The injured suspect was admitted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for treatment, while the second accused was taken into police custody.

According to police, both suspects were allegedly involved in the firing incident at the Laxmi Property office in Rajpura a few days earlier. Police teams had been searching for the pair since the incident.

Police said gangsters Goldy Dhillon and Bobby Mahi had claimed responsibility for the Rajpura firing through a Facebook post. The same post also allegedly contained threats against Rajpura MLA Nina Mittal.

SSP Varun Sharma said both suspects are residents of the Kapurthala area and had no previous criminal record.

He said police had received specific information that the two men were returning to Rajpura via Patiala with the intention of committing another crime. When police attempted to intercept them, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team, prompting retaliatory firing in which one of the suspects sustained injuries.

Sharma said the injured accused was shifted to Rajindra Hospital, while the second suspect was arrested at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation into the Rajpura firing case and are working to identify and apprehend other members allegedly associated with the gang.
