Patiala, June 30

Congress leader and former Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra held a press conference in Patiala, where he criticised the BJP-led government over the NEET and IELTS paper leak issues, alleging that repeated examination leaks had damaged the future of students across the country.

Nagra claimed that since the BJP came to power, young people had faced difficulties in several areas. Referring to the NEET paper leak controversy, he alleged that several students had taken extreme measures as a result. He accused the BJP government of creating a “paper leak industry” and claimed that around 93 examination papers had been leaked so far.

The Congress leader also alleged that nearly one lakh schools had been closed during the BJP’s tenure. He said private universities had expanded significantly and alleged that the education system was being reshaped according to the ideology of the BJP and RSS. Nagra said the Congress party was strongly opposing these developments.

During the press conference, Nagra also criticised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging that the Chief Minister’s statements lacked seriousness. He claimed that the state needed responsible leadership and accused the government of prioritizing publicity over governance.

Nagra further raised concerns over media functioning and claimed that the Punjab Department of Public Relations (DPR) budget had increased from around ₹100 crore earlier to more than ₹1,100 crore. He alleged that government spending was being used to influence media coverage and claimed that opposition voices were not receiving adequate space.

Speaking about the electricity situation in Punjab, Nagra alleged that the state government had failed to provide the promised eight hours of power supply to farmers. He claimed that farmers were not even receiving five hours of electricity supply in many areas, leading to widespread problems.

Several Patiala district Congress leaders and a large number of students were present during the press conference.
