Chandigarh, June 11
Punjab BJP leaders on Wednesday offered prayers at religious places and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected prime minister. Party leaders described the milestone as a historic moment and praised Modi’s leadership, governance record, and contribution to national development.
Prime Minister Modi, who first took office on May 26, 2014, surpassed the previous record for uninterrupted tenure held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, becoming the longest-serving elected prime minister in the country’s democratic history.
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon paid obeisance at a gurdwara in Chandigarh and offered prayers for the prosperity of the nation, Punjab and the party. He described Modi’s tenure as historic and said the Prime Minister’s leadership had contributed significantly to the country’s progress and the welfare of the Sikh community over the past 12 years.
Dhillon said India had reached new heights under Modi’s leadership and credited the Prime Minister’s vision and commitment to the country’s development.
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib in New Delhi and prayed for the country’s peace, prosperity and continued progress. He said India had achieved significant advancements in development, security, and global standing during Modi’s tenure.
Meanwhile, Pathankot MLA and senior BJP leader Ashwani Sharma participated in a collective recitation of Hanuman Chalisa and prayer ceremonies at Shri Kali Mata Temple in Pathankot. He said prayers were offered for the country’s unity, security, and prosperity.
Sharma said India had strengthened its position in areas such as infrastructure development, welfare initiatives, and digital empowerment during the past 12 years. He described Modi’s political journey as an example of dedication to public service, strong leadership, and commitment to nation-building.
The celebrations and prayer gatherings reflected the party’s recognition of the Prime Minister’s milestone and its confidence in his continued leadership as India pursues its development goals in the years ahead.
