Shimla, June 8

The Shimla Meteorological Office has issued a yellow alert warning of heatwave conditions in the districts of Una, Bilaspur, and Solan for Tuesday and Wednesday, while simultaneously forecasting a prolonged wet spell across Himachal Pradesh that will last until June 12. The weather department noted that while certain pockets will face high temperatures in the coming days, isolated areas of the hill state are also expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds on Thursday and Friday.

The dual weather phenomenon follows a weekend of light, scattered rainfall across various parts of the state. According to data recorded over the 24 hours since Saturday evening, Mehre received the highest rainfall, 5 mm. This was followed by minor downpours in Kangra at 1.2 mm, Berthin at 1 mm, Renuka at 0.8 mm, and Raipur Maidan at 0.4 mm, while tourist hubs Sundernagar and Dharamshala experienced trace rainfall.

The fluctuating weather conditions have caused significant temperature variations across different altitudes of the state. Tabo in the high-altitude Lahaul and Spiti district registered the coldest overnight temperature, with the minimum dropping to a chilly 5.2 degrees Celsius. Conversely, the plains of Una recorded the state’s highest daytime temperature, peaking at a scorching 41 degrees Celsius.

With the local weather office predicting erratic conditions ranging from severe heat to sudden electrical storms over the next four days, administrative authorities are monitoring the situation. Residents and travelers moving through vulnerable districts have been advised to stay informed about local weather advisories to mitigate the risks posed by sudden thunderstorms and rising temperatures.
