Chandigarh, June 3

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. She shared details of unmapped voters from the pre-mapping exercise and announced special voter-mapping camps at all polling stations on June 7.

During the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra provided lists of electors whose records remained unmapped as of May 27. She informed party representatives that while some of these cases may already have been resolved, updated lists were being shared to ensure accuracy in the process.

To expedite voter mapping, special camps will be held at all polling stations across Punjab on June 7. Booth Level Officers will be present at these camps from 10 am to 4 pm to assist electors and support the completion of the pre-mapping exercise.

Mitra urged all political parties to actively support the process and help ensure the Special Intensive Revision is completed on time. She also asked parties to expedite the appointment of Booth Level Agents, highlighting their key role in the exercise.

She further briefed representatives on the voter mapping procedure through the Election Commission of India’s voter services portal and said that efforts are underway to reach as many electors as possible before the start of the house-to-house enumeration phase.

To address concerns, the CEO said that even if a voter remains unmapped during the pre-SIR exercise, there is no cause for concern, as officials will verify details with the required documents during the process.

Mitra also informed that the SIR schedule in Punjab has been partially revised. The draft electoral rolls will now be published on August 3. The period for filing claims and objections will run from August 3 to September 2, while the disposal of claims and objections will continue till September 28. The remaining schedule issued earlier on May 14 remains unchanged.

Representatives from several recognized political parties attended the meeting, including the Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal.

Officials said the initiative aims to ensure accurate, up-to-date electoral rolls ahead of the next phase of revision. The June 7 camps are expected to improve voter coverage and accelerate the mapping process through active participation from election staff and political parties.
