Panchkula, June 2
Panchkula Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their fight against cybercrime by busting an alleged fake call centre operating from Sector 2 Market and detaining 21 individuals. Following a 14-hour operation, all suspects were arrested. The raid was led by the Cyber Crime team under Yudhvir and Nirmala Singh, along with the CIA 26 team headed by Dilip Singh. DCP Crime Amarinder Singh and Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain also visited the spot during the operation.
Police claimed the racket targeted foreign nationals, particularly U.S. citizens, through cyber fraud schemes. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officers raided the premises and recovered 19 computers, three laptops, 16 headsets, two Wi-Fi routers, a currency counting machine, POS machines, and approximately ₹11.30 lakh in cash. Four individuals have been identified as the main accused.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the call centre operated according to US time zones, functioning from 7 pm to 3 am. Employees allegedly posed as customer care executives of reputed companies and contacted victims to obtain banking and credit card details, which were then used to carry out fraudulent transactions.
Police said nearly 20 young men and women had been hired to run the operation. They reportedly received specialized English communication training to build trust with foreign customers.
Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain stated that the cyber team successfully dismantled the alleged fraud network through a well-planned operation. The accused will be produced before a court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the network and identify other individuals involved.
Authorities are continuing a detailed investigation to determine the scale of the alleged cyber fraud operation and the number of victims targeted.
