Bengaluru, May 28
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has resigned from his post, formally submitting his resignation to the Governor’s office in Bengaluru on Thursday, marking a major leadership transition in the state.
His resignation was received at Lok Bhavan by Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar in the absence of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently away in Indore for personal reasons.
According to officials, the resignation will be formally accepted by the Governor upon his return.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other cabinet ministers accompanied Siddaramaiah during the formal submission of his resignation.
Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah hosted a breakfast meeting with cabinet colleagues at his residence, where he informed them of his decision to step down, reportedly in line with the Congress party high command’s directive and succession plan.
He also announced that Shivakumar would succeed him as Chief Minister.
Images shared by the Chief Minister’s Office showed an emotional exchange between the two leaders, with Siddaramaiah embracing Shivakumar and the Deputy CM later seen touching his feet in a gesture of respect.
The development marks a significant political shift in Karnataka, ending Siddaramaiah’s current tenure and paving the way for new leadership in the state.
