Chandigarh, May 27
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to citizens to take precautions as temperatures continue to rise across several parts of the country, warning that extreme heat is increasingly affecting daily life. In a message posted on X, Modi urged people to remain hydrated and carry water while stepping outdoors. He also encouraged citizens to help others during the heatwave by offering drinking water to those in need.
“I urge all my fellow citizens to take as many precautions as possible. Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes,” the Prime Minister said. He praised individuals who place water-filled pitchers outside homes and shops for public use, calling such gestures an important source of support during severe weather conditions.
Modi also cautioned people against ignoring symptoms linked to extreme heat, including dizziness, nausea and excessive fatigue. He advised that anyone showing signs of weakness or fainting should be moved immediately to a cool and shaded area and given water, oral rehydration solutions (ORS), or other fluids. The Prime Minister said children, elderly people and those working outdoors were among the most vulnerable during the ongoing heat.
“If not addressed in time, this condition can turn into a serious problem like heatstroke,” he said, adding that public vigilance and care could help save lives.
Modi further appealed for compassion towards animals and birds affected by the soaring temperatures. He encouraged people to place small containers of water outside homes, balconies, rooftops, offices and shops to help thirsty birds survive the heat.
“Let us, in these difficult days, look after one another with complete sensitivity and compassion,” he added.
