Hisar, May 25
A fire broke out at the residence of former Haryana minister Kamal Gupta in Hisar on Sunday, causing extensive damage to furniture and household items in the drawing room. No casualties were reported, and all family members escaped safely.
According to officials, the blaze started on the first floor of Gupta’s residence, located on Balsamand Road. Preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Kamal Gupta, a senior BJP leader and former minister for health and urban local bodies, said he, his wife, and his mother were in another room when smoke and flames were noticed around 4 pm.
He said the drawing room was closed at the time, and the fire spread suddenly. Gupta immediately evacuated the house, safely escorted his wife and mother to a neighboring rooftop, and then notified the fire department.
Two fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the blaze after nearly half an hour of firefighting operations, officials said.
“Material possessions have been lost, but lives have been saved, for that we are truly grateful,” Gupta said.
The fire caused major damage to furniture and other items kept inside the drawing room. Police and fire department officials are continuing to assess the exact cause of the incident.
