Jammu, May 25

Security forces continued “Operation Sheruwali” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district for the third consecutive day on Monday as teams intensified efforts to track down suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in dense forest areas.

The operation was launched on Saturday following intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspected terrorists in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt. A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force is conducting the searches.

Officials said security forces have maintained a strong cordon around the area, while surveillance measures have also been strengthened. Drones, sniffer dogs, and additional troops have been deployed to expand search operations into nearby forest regions.

A brief exchange of fire took place after contact was established with the suspected terrorists during the initial phase of the operation. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

According to preliminary inputs, the movement of two to three suspected terrorists was noticed in the area. Search operations are continuing in the difficult forest terrain as security forces attempt to trace the suspects.

The Army’s White Knight Corps said contact with terrorists was established around 11:30 am on Saturday during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted with police and CRPF personnel in the Gambhir Moghla area.

Security agencies remain on high alert as the operation continues in the region.
