New Delhi, May 20

India’s toffee exports have increased by 166 per cent over the past 12 years, reaching Rs 132 crore in 2025-26, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. The country’s toffee exports stood at Rs 49.68 crore in 2013-14.

Sharing the figures on social media, Goyal highlighted the steady growth of India’s confectionery exports and linked the rise to the country’s expanding global presence in the sector. The minister shared the export data after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting her “Melody” toffees during his visit to Italy.

In a video posted on social media, Meloni described the Indian candy as a “very, very good toffee,” drawing attention online and reviving the popular “Melodi” trend associated with the two leaders. Prime Minister Modi is currently visiting Italy at the invitation of Meloni to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sectors including trade, defence, clean energy and technology.

The “Melodi” hashtag, a combination of Modi and Meloni’s names, first gained popularity during the COP28 summit in Dubai in 2023 and later became widely shared on social media following interactions between the two leaders at international events. The latest export figures come amid the government’s growing efforts to promote Indian food and confectionery products in overseas markets.
