3 suspected Bambiha gang members arrested after encounter with Chandigarh police

Chandigarh, May 19

Three suspected criminals were arrested following an exchange of fire with Chandigarh Police near the city bus stand area, officials said on Tuesday. The accused are believed to have links with the Bambiha gang.

According to police officials, the Operation Cell of Chandigarh Police received specific intelligence regarding the movement of three suspects in the bus stand area. Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot and launched an operation to intercept them. Police said the accused allegedly opened fire while attempting to escape from the scene. During the exchange, one of the bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of a police officer. The officer escaped unharmed due to the protective gear.

Officials said the accused fired three rounds before they were overpowered and taken into custody by the police team. Police have recovered three weapons from the possession of the arrested suspects. Authorities said the accused are suspected of being associated with the Bambiha gang, and their criminal background is being verified.

Further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in other criminal activities and cases, officials added.
