Shimla, May 13
The Shimla Police have intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, achieving a major breakthrough by busting an interstate chitta (heroin) smuggling network and arresting two key suppliers from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing the media, ASP Headquarters Shimla Abhishek said the action was taken under a case registered at Baluganj Police Station (Case No. 50/2026) on March 20. In this case, five accused—Anjeet, Irfan, Ravikant, Mukesh, and Narendra from Sonipat and Jhajjar in Haryana—were earlier arrested, with 93.970 grams of chitta recovered from their possession.
Further investigation, including interrogation, digital evidence analysis, and supply chain tracking, revealed that the contraband was being supplied by Gurmeet alias Billa from Faridkot, who was in contact with the accused through virtual numbers. Acting on this lead, police arrested Gurmeet, son of Kashmir Singh, from Ludhiana on May 13.
In a separate case registered at Theog Police Station (Case No. 48/26), 8.34 grams of chitta were recovered from the accused, Kuldeep Verma alias Ashu, of Naleha, Theog. Subsequent investigation, including financial and digital scrutiny, identified the supplier as Shiv Shankar.
Police later arrested Shiv Shankar, son of Karn Pal Singh, a resident of Bilari tehsil in Moradabad district, Uttar Pradesh, from Chandigarh on May 13, 2026.
ASP Abhishek stated that investigations under the NDPS Act have shown significant improvement in 2026, with 35 backward linkages-based arrests made so far—compared to 10 in 2025 and 7 in 2024.
He further informed that 26 drug trafficking networks have been dismantled this year alone, operating across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala. He said the crackdown has dealt a major blow to the drug supply chain and assured that the anti-drug campaign will continue with the same intensity.
