Chandigarh, May 12
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday described the recent attacks on BJP offices and party leaders in Punjab as a “well-planned conspiracy” and demanded strict legal action not only against the attackers but also against those who allegedly masterminded the incidents.
A delegation of BJP leaders, led by Jakhar, met the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mohali and raised concerns about the security of BJP offices in the district, including the party office in Kharar. The delegation urged the police administration to ensure adequate protection for party workers and offices following the recent incidents.
Speaking to reporters, Jakhar claimed that the attacks reported from Ludhiana, Batala, Tarn Taran, and Nawanshahr appeared to be part of a coordinated strategy rather than isolated incidents. He alleged that individuals were deliberately sent to vandalize BJP offices and throw ink at party leaders in an attempt to create unrest and target the opposition.
The BJP leader said merely arresting those directly involved would not be sufficient and called on the police to identify the main conspirators behind the alleged plot. He also targeted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and demanded an investigation into whether the instructions for the incidents originated with the Punjab leadership or with party leaders in Delhi.
Commenting on corruption cases and the functioning of the Vigilance Department, Jakhar alleged that corruption had spread like “cancer” in Punjab and said the assistance of central agencies such as the CBI and ED would be necessary for effective action against corrupt practices.
He also expressed concern over the law and order situation in the state, alleging that incidents of crime and robbery were increasing continuously under the present government. Jakhar claimed that weak leadership had contributed to the deteriorating situation in Punjab.
